Morris F. Dixon, Jr. Detachment 54 Installs Officers
On April 11, 2011, the Morris F. Dixon, Jr. Detachment 54 in Largo installed the following elected and appointed officers: (from left to right) Bob Cannon - Veterans Service Officer; Bill Cona - Jr. Past Commandant; Frank Erwin - Chaplain; Jerry Konrad - Judge Advocate; John Piazza - Senior Vice Commandant; Frank Correa - Commandant; Jeff Cox - Adjutant; Bruce Marshall - Sergeant-at-Arms; Jaime Perez - Paymaster; Ron Ashley - Junior Vice Commandant.

Vietnam Veterans Honored
On April 9, 2011, Vietnam Veterans from the Angus R. Goss Detachment 56 in Tampa and the Morris F. Dixon, Jr. Detachment 54 in Largo were honored for their service in Southeast Asia with plaques during a ceremony at the Armed Forces Military Museum in Largo. Those honored included (front row, left to right) Dennis Burggraff, James Butler, Clyde E. English, Jr. and Bob Cannon, (back row, left to right) Ron Ashley, Joseph R. Perez, Grant Grien, Willie Little, Jr., Steve Lippman and Jerry Konrad. The ceremony was hosted by the Morris F. Dixon, Jr. Detachment 54.

The Riverview Detachment of the Marine Corps League conducted their installation of officers on Sunday May 1, 2011. Those officers that were installed are pictured left to right. Paymaster Rob Becker, Jr. Vice Commandant Bernie Kotrady, Sr. Vice Commandant Debra Steele, Judge Advocate Walt Raysick, Commandant Dennis Antle, Adjutant Jack Skelding and Sgt-at Arms George McMaster.

Riverview Detachment #1226 Marine Corps League Sr. Vice Commandant, Debra Steele accepting the Meritorious Unit Commendation awarded to the Detachment at the recent Department of Florida, Marine Corps League convention held in Fort Lauderdale. UNIT COMMENDATION
2011 Marine of the Year for MCL Det. 54
On November 12, 2011, James “Doc” Szatkowski was named the 2011 Marine of the Year at the Morris F. Dixon, Jr. Detachment 54 of the Marine Corps League in Clearwater/Largo. Szatkowski has held several officer positions during his seven years as a member of Detachment 54 and as a member of the Military Order of the Devil Dogs, Pound 79, Florida Pack. He has served on the Honor Guard; represented the Detachment as a volunteer at the Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Hospital; supported the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program and provided numerous meals to the homeless with Project Hope. He currently serves as the Detachment Chaplain. This well-deserved award was presented to Szatkowski (left) by Frank Correa (right), Commandant of Marine Corps League Detachment 54, at the 236th birthday celebration of the U.S. Marine Corps held by the Detachment at the Belleair Country Club.
