Department Cmdt Bill Backes presented the Distinguished Citizen Gold Award to Marine Joe Spoto, for his 50 years of dedicated service to the MCL, on behalf of National Cmdt Vic Voltaggio. With Cmdt Backes were Dept Sr. Vice Lou Calleja, Jr. Vice Bill Cona, Dist 4 Vice Cmdt Al Tomburrino, Paymaster Skip Sponheim and Adjutant Bob Beale.
The Detachment awarded Marines Spoto and Smith with the Marine of the Year Award.
On Saturday June 4th a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Holiday Detachment #567 In New Port Richey for their planned 4000+ square foot addition on their property. Great warm weather was prevalent as the approximately 200 members and guest soaked up the sun as well as beverages followed by a great meal. Among the Department of FL officers in attendance were Sr. Vice Cmdt Lou Calleja, Paymaster Skip Sponheim, Sgt at Arms Bruce Marshal, District Vice Cmdt Bob Ross and Communications/Legislative officer Dick Hauck.
Groundbreaking ceremony was performed by: Judge Advocate Skip Debes, Past Cmdt Norris Buchter who is a WWII veteran, Det. #567 Commandant Roger Golden, and MCLA President Evelyn Joppa.
We look forward to their grand opening when the building is completed.
